Recruitment procedure for new Executive Director of the European Medicines Agency started

03/11/2010 - A vacancy notice announcing the recruitment of a new Executive Director for the European Medicines Agency has been published. Interested candidates have until 24 November 2010 to submit their application to the European Commission.

The vacancy announcement, together with all relevant information and instructions, is published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Thomas Lönngren, the current Executive Director, will be leaving the Agency on 31 December 2010, following the expiry of his second five-year mandate.

Acting Executive Director appointed

As the recruitment procedure for the new Executive Director will not be completed by the time of Mr Lönngren’s departure, the Agency has appointed Andreas Pott, the current Head of Administration, to serve as Acting Executive Director from 1 January 2011.

Mr Pott holds a Masters Degree in political science, history and English from the University of Hamburg, as well as a Certificat de Hautes Etudes Européennes (in economics) from the College of Europe, Bruges. From 1972 to 1989, he held a number of teaching and research posts, including a research fellowship at the Institute of Peace Research and Security Policy, University of Hamburg.

Mr Pott joined the European Parliament in 1989, serving in the secretariat of the Committee on Research, Technological Development and Energy, in the secretariat of the Committee on Budgets, and in the Parliament’s Bureau and Conference of Presidents. He moved to the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union in 1999, before joining the European Medicines Agency in May 2000 as Head of Administration.
