EMA celebrates ten years of its patients and consumers working party

Join the live broadcast on Tuesday 14 June from 14:00 to 17:00

The tenth anniversary meeting of the European Medicines Agency’s (EMA) Patients' and Consumers' Working Party (PCWP) will take place at the Agency on Tuesday 14 June. The meeting will be broadcast live and you can follow the broadcast by clicking on the multimedia tab on the event page.

An agenda of the meeting is available.

If you wish to tweet from the event please use the hashtag #PCWP10.

This meeting will be an opportunity to reflect on how the involvement of patients in EMA activities has evolved since the creation of the Agency. This milestone also presents a chance to consider key priorities for the coming years and how to address the challenges ahead.

Presentations and a video recording will be available following the meeting.

The PCWP, which was established by the Agency in 2006, provides recommendations to EMA and its scientific committees on all topics of interest to patients and consumers in relation to medicines and monitors interactions between EMA and patients and consumers. It comprises a core group of representatives from eligible patients’ and consumers’ organisations as well as representatives from EMA’s scientific committees, observers from the Management Board, the European Commission, the Healthcare Professionals Working Party (HCPWP) and the Coordination Group for Mutual Recognition and Decentralised Procedures – Human (CMDh).

The group made major contributions to the establishment of the framework of interaction of EMA with patient and consumer organisations, increased involvement of patients in the assessment of medicines and improvements to the information about medicines produced by the Agency.

EMA has been engaging in dialogue with European patient and consumer organisations since it started operations in 1995. Involving patients and consumers in the Agency’s activities brings real-life experience as well as specific knowledge and expertise to scientific discussions on medicines and on the impact of regulatory decisions, and is a priority for the Agency.

A collection of articles and video interviews to mark the tenth anniversary of the PCWP will be published on the EMA website in November 2016.
