The Agency supports the activities of the European Commission in India.
The European Union (EU) has a co-operation agreement with India dating from 1994, which allows for specialised sub-groups to be set up. In 2005, a joint action plan of the India-EU strategic partnership was set up, endorsing the establishment of a working group on pharmaceuticals. This working group started its activities in July 2006, with annual meetings ever since.
The Agency is working with India in the application of international standards in manufacturing and clinical trial activities, and is facilitating capacity building and regulatory contacts through the GMP. Delegates from India are invited to the Agency's annual good-clinical-practice (GCP) inspector training. The Agency has also held discussions with India on ayurvedic medicine.
