The European Medicines Agency (EMA) launched a micro-, small- and medium-sized-enterprise (SME) office in 2005. The office is dedicated to addressing the particular needs of smaller companies.
The establishment of the SME office followed the European Commission's adoption of specific provisions on 15 December 2005. These provisions were aimed at promoting innovation and the development of new medicines for human and veterinary use by SMEs.
Update: SME online survey
EMA’s SME initiative is ten years old. To mark the anniversary, EMA has launched an online survey to gather feedback on the programme. The survey is open to SMEs and interested stakeholder organisations, including individuals, enterprises, authorities and organisations involved with SMEs in the pharmaceutical sector.
EMA is inviting feedback on:
- current issues faced by SMEs;
- areas for further development; and
- identification of new regulatory tools that could support innovation in the SME sector.
Opinions gathered will help EMA tailor its future activities to the needs of SMEs. The deadline for completing the survey is 25 September 2015.
Survey results will be shared at a roundtable meeting with SME stakeholders at the end of 2015.
