CHMP working parties reorganised

News 25/10/2010

25/10/2010 - The European Medicines Agency's website has been updated to reflect the changes in the organisation of the working parties of the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP).

The changes, which took effect in September 2010, followed a review of the structure of the working parties carried out as part of the CHMP's 2008-2010 work plan.

The changes were made to improve transparency, to reduce duplication of work between working parties and to ensure the scientific competence of and active contribution from all working party members. The main changes were:

  • replacement of the Efficacy Working Party with a number of temporary working parties with narrower fields of expertise;
  • establishment of drafting groups to draw up and review guidelines that do not fall within the remit of existing working parties;
  • establishment of a Co-ordination Group to co-ordinate the activities of the working parties and drafting groups.

More information is available in the reflection paper on working parties, and in the mandate, objectives and rules of procedure for the temporary working parties and drafting groups.
