European Medicines Agency appoints Head of International and European Cooperation
The European Medicines Agency has appointed Emer Cooke as Head of International and European Cooperation.
The International and European Cooperation Sector, formed in February 2012, is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of the Agency's international strategy and activities, including confidentiality arrangements with countries outside the European Union (EU), such as the United States, Japan and Canada.
The Sector also manages the Agency's relationship with European Union institutions and bodies, with regulatory partners in the EU, particularly the Heads of Medicines Agencies, and with Member States' permanent representations in Brussels.
Ms Cooke, a pharmacist with a masters degree in business administration, has been working at the Agency since 2002, first as Head of Inspections and then as International Liaison Officer. She has been acting head of the International and European Cooperation Sector since its formation. Her formal appointment today follows her success in an internal recruitment procedure.
