The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has started to publish the curricula vitae (CVs) of the scientific experts who are involved in its activities in the context of the authorisation and surveillance of medicines for human and veterinary use.
The CVs are available in the Agency's European expert list.
This represents the latest initiative undertaken by the Agency as part of its comprehensive approach to improve transparency, and provides a more complete profile of each expert involved in the Agency's activities.
There are currently over 3,600 experts from the European Union (EU), Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway in the EMA's expert database. These experts have until 9 December 2013 to submit their CVs in electronic format to the Agency. Since Monday 9 September, more than 700 CVs have been published on the EMA website.
As part of the Agency's conflicts-of-interests policy for scientific-committee members and experts, all experts involved in EMA activities must declare their interests at least once a year.
For more than a decade, the Agency has been publishing the names of the experts involved in its activities on its website. The declarations of interests of these experts used to be available on request.
The Agency started to publish the experts' declarations of interests in September 2011, and then the risk levels assigned to the experts from January 2012.
