Setting up in March 2022, the Cancer Medicines Forum (CMF) was created by EMA in collaboration with the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) with the overall goal to optimise cancer treatments.
The meeting in June 2026 focuses on the following topics:
- The CMF endorsed its proposed composition and governance structure following the call for expressions of interest, while highlighting the need to further strengthen patient representation.
- Priority topics for the future CMF action plan were agreed, with a focus on publications addressing key oncology treatment optimisation challenges, priority areas include: treatment optimisation, incentives to support optimisation research, collaborative industry–academia models, improved approaches to assessing toxicity and benefit, and best practices for pragmatic clinical trials in oncology.
- Discussions on diagnostic-guided treatment optimisation emphasised the potential of personalised treatment strategies supported by biomarkers and risk stratification, alongside the need for robust evidence generation.
- The FORCE consortium presented its plans to advance pragmatic oncology trials in rare and difficult-to-treat cancers through multinational collaboration and patient involvement.
- EORTC presented findings on regulatory uncertainties in oncology indication extensions, highlighting treatment optimisation, biomarker use, and dosing strategies as common areas of uncertainty.
