Scientific Advisory Group on Immune and Inflammatory Diseases

The Scientific Advisory Group on Immune and Inflammatory Diseases (SAG-IMM)'s role is to provide independent recommendations on scientific, clinical or technical matters to the European Medicine Agency (EMA)'s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP). These recommendations refer to medicines addressing autoimmune, inflammatory diseases, respiratory and dermatological diseases, or any other scientific issues. The scientific advisory group is convened at the request of the CHMP.
Human Medicines

The Scientific Advisory Group on Immune and Inflammatory Diseases provides recommendations for medicines under CHMP evaluation. 

These include medicines for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases like immunodeficiencies, rheumatology, transplantation and allergies. They also refer to medicines for respiratory and dermatological diseases.

The group's recommendations also cover other scientific issues relevant to the CHMP's work in this field.

Composition

The group will be composed of independent European experts selected according to their specific expertise. 

It will comprise a core group of experts and other individual experts who may be called upon to participate in a given meeting and bring additional expertise in specific domains.

Call for members

EMA launched a public call for expressions of interest to establish the Scientific Advisory Group for Immune and Inflammatory Diseases. 

Those interested to become members of this scientific advisory group should apply before 17 October 2025 via SAG.public.call@ema.europa.eu

CHMP endorsed the group in June 2025.

EMA launched this call for members in August 2025.

EMA expects the group to become operational in Q4 2025.
