European Medicines Agency welcomes new Head of Information and Communications Technology

Guido Rasi, the Executive Director of the European Medicines Agency, today welcomed Mr Luc Verhelst into his new position as Head of the Agency's Information and Communications Technology Unit.

Mr Verhelst joins the Agency from a position as Chief Operations Officer at a leading Belgian payment and e-invoicing services provider where he was responsible for information-technology (IT) and business operations. He has over 20 years of senior management experience in both private and public sector organisations with a focus on developing corporate IT strategy and delivery of large client-focused systems and projects. A Belgian national, he has qualifications in mechanical engineering and information technology, and a Masters degree in public administration.

In addition to providing operational and project IT support to staff in the Agency's London offices, the Information and Communications Technology Unit is responsible for implementing the European Union telematics programme. This is a multi-stakeholder programme encompassing the design, development, hosting and maintenance of multiple pan-European systems and databases used by European Member States to comply with legislation related to the safety and efficacy of medicines.
