Head of Veterinary Medicines Unit to leave European Medicines Agency

The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) has announced that Dr Peter Jones, Head of Unit for veterinary medicines and inspections, is to leave the Agency to take up a new post as Executive Director of the International Federation for Animal Health (IFAH Global), the representative body for the worldwide veterinary pharmaceutical industry.

Making the announcement, the EMEA Executive Director Thomas Lönngren said, 'Peter Jones has made an outstanding contribution not just in the veterinary field at EMEA, but in the wider work of the Agency, and we shall be very sorry to see him go, but wish him well in his new appointment'. Dr Jones will remain with the EMEA until he takes up his position in mid-autumn 2005.

Notes:
1. Dr Jones is a veterinary surgeon and a member of the UK Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. He has several years experience in general veterinary practice in the UK and Canada. He has held a number of positions in research and regulatory affairs in multinational veterinary pharmaceutical companies. Dr Jones joined the EMEA in June 1995 and was appointed Head of Unit in December 1995.
2. A successor to Dr Jones will be nominated through an open recruitment competition that will be published shortly.
