HMPC: Working parties and other groups

The Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products (HMPC) consults its working parties and other groups on scientific issues relating to their particular field of expertise, and delegates certain tasks to them associated with the scientific evaluation of applications or drafting and revision of scientific guidance documents.

Working parties and groups within domains

The majority of working parties and related groups operate under the governance of a domain.

The Inter-Committee Scientific Advisory Group on Oncology is currently the only scientific advisory group under HMPC. It operates as an operational expert group within the clinical domain.

Other working parties and associated groups

The following working parties can be consulted to provide advice to EMA and its human scientific committees, including HMPC, on all matters of interest in relation to medicines:

• Healthcare Professionals' Working Party
• Patients' and Consumers' Working Party

The Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) / Distribution Practice Practice (GDP) Inspectors Working Group further supports the work of HMPC.

Drafting groups

HMPC sets up drafting groups as needed to develop specific guidance documents or other HMPC-related work.

Each drafting group is composed of experts drawn from:

• EMA
• HMPC members
• European expert list
