Event summary

European Medicines Agency (EMA), together with its partners in the European Medicines Regulatory Network (EMRN), plays a key role in advancing women’s health.

This includes driving regulatory science, supporting innovation and developing guidelines.

It also involves the generation and use of real-world and epidemiological data, and encompasses, finally, the assessment of new medicines and complex medical devices.

This workshop aims to:

  • highlight the contribution of the EMRN partners to women’s health;
  • take stock of current gaps and challenges, drawing on epidemiological data, clinical research, and patients’ and healthcare professionals’ experience;
  • explore opportunities to strengthen the evidence base and support more inclusive and representative clinical research;
  • bring together perspectives from patients, healthcare professionals, academia, industry, and global partners to identify priority areas for action;
  • contribute to the identification of actionable steps and potential indicators to measure meaningful progress.

Background

While healthcare outcomes for women have improved, significant challenges remain due to gaps in research, understanding of sex-based differences, and the development of women-focused treatments.

Growing EU and global initiatives are driving action to strengthen evidence, innovation, and equitable access to medicines, with the aim of improving women’s health and quality of life across all life stages.
