Event summary
This is a joint webinar of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE) on EMA’s categorisation of antibiotics for veterinary use in the European Union and its implications for animal health professionals.
The event will include a presentation of the categorisation and its impact for veterinarians and insights on practitioners’ perspective.
Participants will be able to ask their questions to a multi-stakeholder panel representing the views of animal health professionals, veterinary national competent authorities, CVMP Antimicrobials Working Party, Antimicrobial Advice Ad Hoc Expert Group, and EMA.
The categorisation ranks antibiotics based on the need to use them in animals versus the risk of antimicrobial resistance to public health.
It was prepared by the Antimicrobial Advice Ad Hoc Expert Group (AMEG) and adopted by EMA's Veterinary Medicines Committee (CVMP) and Human Medicines Committee (CHMP). This is in line with the 'One Health' approach, which promotes a close and integrated cooperation between the human and veterinary fields in response to the threat of antimicrobial resistance. EMA published the categorisation in January 2020.
This is the second webinar organised jointly with the FVE in the context of implementing the Veterinary Medicinal Products Regulation.
