EMA’s Management Board has unanimously recommended the renewal of its Executive Director Emer Cooke’s mandate. This recommendation was given in response to a consultation request from the European Commission, which is in favour of renewing Emer Cooke’s mandate until her pension age (1 May 2027).

Ms Cooke, who has served as EMA’s Executive Director since November 2020, is currently set to complete her first mandate as the head of the Agency in November 2025.

Following the Board’s recommendation, the European Commission will proceed to formally prepare the renewal proposal for approval by the College of Commissioners.

If the European Commission adopts the proposal for renewal, it will be returned to EMA’s Management Board for formal approval as appointing authority.

The process is expected to continue throughout 2025, with the final outcome of the procedure to be announced following agreement by the EMA Management Board later in the year.
