June is PRIDE month and EMA starts a two-month celebration of diversity and inclusion in science and healthcare, leading up to its participation in the world-famous Amsterdam Canal Parade on 1 August 2026.

Pride Amsterdam 2026 is a historic edition, as the city hosts EuroPride and, for the first time ever, WorldPride. Under the banner “United for Health”, EMA will join the parade in its host city with its own boat, showcasing its commitment to diversity, equity and public health on a global stage.

As the European Union (EU) body responsible for the scientific evaluation and safety monitoring of medicines, EMA works for 450 million people across the EU.

Our strength in the EU comes from our unity in diversity. Equality and non-discrimination are critical everywhere, but in health they can make the difference between life and death. Usually, our work happens behind the scenes, but our participation in WorldPride Canal Parade in Amsterdam gives us an opportunity to take a public stand showcasing our united approach to health and the science that supports better health outcomes.

EMA staff will be joined on the boat by representatives of patient organisations such as EURORDIS-Rare Diseases Europe, European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG) and the European Patient Forum (EPF) to underline the commitment to collaboration and inclusion of diverse perspectives in medicines regulation. Health and scientific excellence are strengthened when all voices are represented, respected and included.

EMA has a long-standing history of working with patient communities, whose involvement has helped shape scientific and regulatory approaches. Understanding the needs of diverse populations and engaging with communities, including the LGBTQI+ one, leads to better medicines and better health outcomes.

Over the next two months EMA will publish regular updates on its social media channels. Follow on LinkedIn, Bluesky and the OneHealth Instagram account.

As a European public health agency based in Amsterdam, EMA’s participation in the Canal Parade during WorldPride 2026 is an opportunity to highlight how inclusive science improves lives for everyone.
