Recruitment procedure opens for next Executive Director of the European Medicines Agency

The vacancy notice for the next EMA Executive Director has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union, marking the beginning of the recruitment process for the most senior role at the Agency.
The next Executive Director will take over the position from the current Executive Director, Emer Cooke, whose mandate at the helm of the Agency ends on 30 April 2027.
The Executive Director is the legal representative and public face of EMA and is accountable to the Agency’s Management Board. They will lead and manage EMA and take overall responsibility for its operations.
The recruitment process is run by the European Commission, which will provide a shortlist of candidates to the Management Board. The Board will then appoint the successful candidate, following an exchange with the European Parliament’s SANT committee.
The closing date for applications is 19 March 2026 at 12:00 noon Brussels time.
